Albert Turner III watches election results come in

June 3, 2014 was a big night for Commissioner Albert Turner, Jr. The fourteen year veteran of the Perry County Commission easily returned to office with a landslide victory over Eddie Perry. Commissioner Turner captured 62% of the vote cased in his primary victory. The victory was Commissioner Turner’s third landslide win over his opponents. This victory also marked the third election which Commissioner Turner reached over the 60% mark. The voters of District One which Commissioner Turner represents saw a smaller turnout than was expected with only 68% of the registered voters coming to the polls. In past elections turnout was in the 70% range. Turner though that turnout would be a challenge as many of the voters did not believe that the race would be close. He stressed voter turnout during the campaign to ensure his victory.

The District One commission seat has been held by only two men since 1988, Albert Turner Sr. and Albert Turner, Jr. The Turner hold has been 26 years uninterrupted…the longest such hold in the history of Perry County. At the end of Commissioner Turner’s third full term, the seat would have be controlled by a Albert Turner for 32 years and counting.
